Your home or apartment should be able to maintain a temperature of at least 65 degrees when you turn the furnace on. If it does not, contact your landlord.
If you need to use additional heat sources, follow these tips:
Never heat your home with a gas stove. It could cause a buildup of carbon monoxide.
Make sure space heaters are plugged directly into outlets, not extension cords.
If you have a fireplace, make sure your landlord has had the chimney cleaned.
IMPORTANT: If you leave your house or apartment for the weekend, the holidays or another extended time period, please make sure you leave the heat on to prevent pipes from freezing and potentially bursting.
