MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN            (Full-Time) 
Starting Salary: $15.12/hr


Position Purpose: Contributes to public health and sanitation by managing and maintaining the sanitary sewer collection system; participate in winter snow removal activities.

Experience Required: High school graduate or equivalent, plus experience in utility maintenance or construction. Work in all weather conditions.

Special Requirement:
Must have/maintain a valid driver's license, and must have or obtain a valid Kansas CDL license within 90 days of employment. Must be able to comply with the department/work group residency requirement of living within a 25-mile radius of the shop.

FULL-TIME TEMPORARY WATER SERVICE WORKER        (Benefits Included) 
Starting Wage: $13.41/hr   

Position Purpose: Work variably in support of city water utility functions including water distribution system installation, maintenance, and repair; possibly meter installation and replacement; installation of meter transmission units; managing meter data with hand held microprocessor; meter data in support of water utility billing services. Customer service water service on/off, investigating possible leaks, ascertaining accurate information related to metering; report noted defects; effective communication skills; physical agility and manual dexterity; other related activities; full and accurate completion of work assignments is a key performance measure for this position. High school diploma or equivalent; valid driver’s license.

Assist the Parks Maintenance work groups in key objectives by providing labor and operating various tools, machinery, and equipment; wide variety of parks maintenance activities and grounds and facilities maintenance. Knowledge of types and uses of common hand tools; general understanding of turf and landscape maintenance practices. Willing and able to perform manual labor for extended periods of time, work outdoors in all weather, and perform routine repetitive tasks is essential. Applicants should possess mathematical skills and oral communication skills commensurate to complete basic reports, read plans and directions, and communicate with management, coworkers, and citizens. Position supports quality experiences for park patrons to include interaction with the public. Requires valid driver's license.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT SUPERINTENDENT              (Regular Full-Time)
Salary DOQ        

Supervise, plan, coordinate and direct the services and operations of the City’s Wastewater Treatment process to meet Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements. This includes operating and maintaining one Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) Activated Sludge Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) with UV disinfection, Biosolids operations and equipment, Lift Stations, Grinder Pump Stations, Activated Carbon Odor Control system, and other operating and support equipment.

ACTIVITY LEADER                    (Regular Part-Time) 
Starting Rate: $12.47/hr

Position Purpose: Develop, implement, and supervise recreational activities, issue recreational equipment, and secure the Douglass Community Center buildings and grounds to ensure a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for Center patrons.

Experience Required: High School diploma or equivalent and enrollment or coursework in an accredited college or university majoring in recreation or a related field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Knowledge of equipment and facilities used in recreational events and activities. The ability to assist in developing and facilitating recreational programs designed to fulfill the needs of the community; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, municipal officials, and the general public; valid driver’s license. Afternoons, evenings, and weekends, 20 hours per week.

Temporary / Seasonal Positions (Non-benefit eligible)


DANCE INSTRUCTOR     (Temporary/Seasonal Non-Benefit)          
Starting Salary: $8.75/hr                                                                                  (Parks and Recreation)

Position Description: The essential function of this position is to teach introductory level dance classes for children and young adults. Must have experience with multiple dance styles and techniques, which may include ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, and/or cheerleading and tumbling. Must be at least 18 years of age and have weekday evening availability.


PROGRAM ASSISTANT (SUNSET ZOO)
Starting Salary:  $7.25/hr

Position Responsibilities: Facilitate a variety of high quality, revenue generating, science-based educational programs such as live animal programs, early childhood classes, overnight programs, Scout workshops, birthday parties and much more. Serve in a teacher aid role with the Zoo Sprouts nature-based childcare program. Develop and deliver high quality summer camp programming. Supervise volunteers assisting with program delivery.

Experience Required: High school graduate or equivalent preferred; plus background knowledge of zoos, animals, and current education practices vital. Excellent public speaking skill and ability to adapt to a variety of audiences and volunteer needs required. Must be able to work with little supervision. Schedule is highly variable, working one to 30 hours per week, depending on staffing needs and personal schedule. Mandatory continuing education required and provided by Sunset Zoo. This is a temporary/seasonal position. Valid driver’s license.
