User's Guide to the Traditional Neighborhood Overlay (TNO) District
The Traditional Neighborhood Overlay District User's Guide was created to help homeowners and homebuilders better understand the requirements of the TNO District through illustrations, examples, and descriptive explanations of the regulations.
Zoning Regulations
While the Users Guide provides explanations for every requirement of the TNO District, it should not be considered a substitute for the Zoning Regulations. If there is uncertainty as to the requirements of the TNO, refer to the Zoning Regulations or contact the Community Development Department at (785) 587-2412.
TNO District Zoning Requirements
If you are thinking about a home improvement project, such as expanding a driveway, or adding on to your home, we encourage you to call the Community Development Department to discuss your ideas and learn about what zoning requirements would apply in the TNO area before submitting an application for a building permit. Please be aware that even in cases when a building permit is not required, all improvements must still conform to the applicable zoning regulations.
