Timeline for the Amendment Process


Sept. 9, 2014 – City Commission Work Session regarding the proposed regulations

Fall 2014 – Public hearing adoption process with Manhattan Urban Area Planning Board and City Commission (Dates to be announced)

The Community Development Department is completing an update of the
City’s sign regulations. The current sign regulations are a chapter in the
Manhattan Zoning Ordinance – Article VI. These regulations were originally
adopted in 1996 and have been amended with minor updates several times.

Work Session
The Community Development Department will conduct a work session with the City Commission on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014, to review the Draft Sign Regulations and to highlight the proposed changes, including:
  • Overview of draft provisions for residential, commercial and industrial districts
  • Electronic and digital signs
  • Temporary signs
  • Real estate signs and For Rent signs
  • Sidewalk signs
