The city has various types of assistance to repair homes owned and occupied by low- and moderate-income residents. Below are the descriptions and applications for available funding.
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Rehabilitation Program
The City of Manhattan has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to assist with home repairs for low- and moderate-income Manhattan homeowners. To be eligible, you must own within city limits and meet income limits (listed below). CDBG housing rehab assistance is disbursed to eligible applicants on a first-come, first-serve basis as funding permits.
Eligible Rehabilitation
Eligible rehabilitation includes improvements necessary to bring the property into compliance with local codes and HUD housing quality standards. These standards will be used to address issues related to:
- Accessibility improvements
- Electrical repairs
- Heating and air conditioning
- Lead-based paint controls
- Plumbing
- Structural repairs
Emergency Housing Repairs
CDBG funds are available to correct emergency situations. Emergency housing repairs include:
- Furnace repairs and/or replacement.
- Plumbing repairs and/or replacement.
- Electrical repairs and/or replacement.
- Any other improvement deemed necessary to correct a life safety situation.
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Mobile Home Rehabilitation
The City of Manhattan has a limited amount of funds available for Emergency Repair and Accessibility Modifications to mobile homes, owned and occupied by low- and moderate-income residents. The maximum one-time funding amount for repairs will be limited to $2,500.
