News Release: Veterinary Clinics in Manhattan now selling pet licenses

Several local veterinarians have partnered with the City of Manhattan to offer one-stop shopping for rabies vaccinations and pet licensing. The City Commission recently adopted an ordinance that will allow veterinarians to sell licenses at their clinic and send that information back to the City.

News Release: FEMA Individual Assistance Not Expected

After Governor Colyer declared a state of disaster for five counties in Kansas following the September 3, 2018 flood, a request was made to the President to provide federal aid. The requirements for some, but not all, forms of federal aid were met based on the scale and severity of the disaster.

News Release: Manhattan Flood Recovery Committee

A Manhattan Flood Recovery Committee has been formed with representatives from Catholic Charities, the Salvation Army, United Way, and Shepherd's Crossing to distribute funds collected by the Greater Manhattan Community Foundation. Their goal is to provide financial assistance to those who were impacted by the Wildcat Creek Flood on September 3, 2018. Funds are limited and will be distributed based on need.

News Release: SBA Offers Disaster Assistance Through Federal Loans

Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to Kansas businesses and residents affected by flash flooding, flooding and severe storms that occurred Sept. 1-3, 2018, announced Administrator Linda McMahon of the U.S. Small Business Administration. SBA acted under its own authority to declare a disaster in response to a request SBA received from Gov. Jeff Colyer, M.D. on Sept. 11, 2018.
 
The disaster declaration makes SBA assistance available in Clay, Geary, Marshall, Pottawatomie, Riley, Wabaunsee and Washington counties.

News Release: Kansans Await Federal Public Assistance Declaration for Flood Relief

(MANHATTAN, KS – September 13, 2018) Kansas counties impacted by September 3, 2018 flood events are awaiting federal declaration to be eligible for public assistance.

Last week, Gov. Jeff Colyer MD issued a state of disaster emergency declaration for five Kansas counties which started the process for federal relief opportunities. The state declaration sent notification to the President, initiating a request for federal disaster declaration based on The Stafford Act. The law states "All requests for a declaration by the President that a major disaster exists shall be made by the Governor of the affected State."

Anyone who has not yet registered with the Red Cross is encouraged to contact the CMO during regular business hours at 785-587-2404 to ensure they stay informed of all resources for flood relief.

News Release: Manhattan Flood Update 9/10/2018

Eighteen service agencies participated in the Multi Agency Resource Center (MARC) last Friday and were able to serve more than 100 families affected by the recent flood. According to Debra Tucker from the American Red Cross, it was the largest MARC event in recent Kansas history.

Friday, September 7 from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, a Multi-Agency Resource Center (MARC) will be open at St. Thomas Moore Church, located at 2900 Kimball Avenue. People affected by flooding can stop by throughout the day to meet with area support agencies.

News Release: Flooding in Manhattan, Kansas 9-3-2018

FLOODING IN MANHATTAN KANSAS

(MANHATTAN, KS – September 3, 2018) Riley County Emergency Management, the Manhattan Fire Department, Public Works and Riley County Police Department were notified around 4:30 AM that the water in Wildcat Creek was rapidly rising. More rainfall is expected in the next 24 hours and emergency services will continue to monitor the situation.

Roads were blocked off early this morning and residents were notified at that time to evacuate if they lived in the affected areas. It is estimated that 300 people have been affected by flooding at this point.
