Manhattan, Kansas, April 19, 2018 — At 5:00 pm on April 19th, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 917 Kearney Street for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a two-story multi-family residential structure with heavy smoke and fire showing. The fire reached a second alarm before it was contained within thirty minutes. A total of seventeen firefighters responded on five fire apparatus with units still on scene at the time of this release. All occupants were able to evacuate the structure without injury.
Loss is estimated at $30,000 to contents and $125,000 to the structure. The owner is listed as Joe Hodges of Salina, Kansas. . The fire cause is under investigation at this time.
