MFD News Release: House Fire on Church Ave

(Manhattan, Kan., November 2, 2018 ) — At 9:22 p.m. on Friday night, the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 820 Church Avenue for a report of a house on fire with multiple explosions. Upon arrival, crews found a one-story single family dwelling with heavy fire showing from the rear. The fire reached a second alarm before it was contained within 30 minutes. A total of 19 firefighters responded on 6 fire apparatus with the units still on scene at the time of this release. No injuries were reported

The occupant of the home was outside when units arrived on scene. Loss is estimated at $80,000 to the structure and $20,000 for the contents. The owner is listed as Michael Watt and Elena Klotz of the same address. The fire cause is under investigation at this time.
