[ARCHIVED] Tammy Galvan will be the City's new Human Resources Director

(Manhattan, Kan., Dec. 14, 2018) — Tammy Galvan has been named Human Resources Director for the City of Manhattan. City Manager Ron Fehr announced the appointment today. Galvan will begin leading the Human Resources Department effective January 14, 2019.

Galvan will be responsible for employee and labor relations; risk and benefits administration; and training and organizational development programs and processes for the City of Manhattan. The Human Resources Director oversees all human resources activities which includes the City of Manhattan’s compliance with applicable employment law; recommending and administering employment policies and procedures; providing guidance to City departments and employees; providing employee development and training opportunities, and developing and administering the employee benefits, workers’ compensation, property & liability, and other loss prevention and loss control programs.

“I am very pleased that we are promoting Tammy to become our next Director of Human of Human Resources. Tammy has prepared herself well to advance to this Department Head level position with previous experience in the HR Department and currently engaging HR components for the Parks and Recreation Department. Tammy’s recent completion of her MBA with concentration in Human Resource Management along with national HR certifications highlights her academic achievements,” Fehr said.  “Tammy’s knowledge of the organization will be a great strength in assuming the position from retiring Human Resources Director Cathy Harmes who has been a tremendous leader for the City’s HR department the past 22 years.” 

Galvan started with the City in 2011, as a Human Resources Generalist and was promoted to Administrative Coordinator in the Parks and Recreation Department in 2014. She was then promoted to the position of Operations Officer in 2017. Galvan earned her master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources in 2018. She was invited to join Sigma Beta Delta, the International Honor Society for Business, Management, and Administration for graduating with a 4.0 GPA in the Master’s program. Galvan earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Human Resources from Kansas State University in 2009. Galvan is a Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Senior Certified Professional and has earned the designation of Senior Professional in Human Resources from the Human Resources Certification Institute (HRCI).
