(Manhattan, KS - May 19, 2019) The Manhattan Regional Airport (MHK) along with the T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter has partnered to bring travelers and guests an opportunity to “Pet Away Stress” with animals that are currently up for adoption at the shelter. “This is a great opportunity for us to join forces with another department within the city that also serves this region, the same people who fly MHK,” said Jesse R. Romo, Airport Director.
The T. Russell Reitz Animal Shelter provides service to Riley County, Pottawatomie County and the city of Manhattan. The Shelter gives sanctuary to animals, encourages adoptions, and promotes responsible pet ownership. They serve the citizens and animals of our community by upholding the laws enacted for their protection.
“I’m excited to partner with the Manhattan Regional Airport to give the dogs and cats exposure and provide enrichment to increase their adoptability,” said Deborah L. Watkins, RVT, Director of Animal Services for the City of Manhattan. “We know that petting animals relieves stress and increases health and wellness.” While this opportunity was designed mainly to give travelers an outlet for potentially relieving stress that sometimes may occur in the traveling processing, it is also open to the public. The first Pet Away Stress opportunity was introduced to travelers at Manhattan Regional Airport on Tuesday, May 14, 2019.
The next Pet Away Stress will take place in the Manhattan Regional Airport Terminal on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 between 2:00 pm and 3:30 pm.
