Fire Sprinkler Demonstration
Posted on March 3, 2020 at 7:51 PM by Vivienne Uccello
(Manhattan, Kan., May 20, 2019) — The Manhattan Fire Department will host a side-by-side fire sprinkler burn demonstration at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24th, 2019 at the headquarters fire station located at 2000 Denison Ave. The Manhattan Fire Department was awarded a $500 stipend from the national nonprofit Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) to increase its home fire sprinkler education.
The live demonstration will include two similarly furnished rooms — one protected with fire sprinklers and the other without fire sprinklers. People who attend the demonstration will be able to experience firsthand how quickly a fire can become deadly versus the quick response and effectiveness of a fire sprinkler system in controlling or extinguishing a fire. This is the second demonstration of this type the department has hosted.
May is when we are celebrating the International Code Council's Building Safety Month, and this is one of the events we have planned. This year's Building Safety Month theme is
No Code. No confidence
. The support for regularly updated building codes and a strong system of code enforcement helps ensure that individuals and communities are safe in the buildings where they live, work, and play. This demonstration is being held as part of contractor continuing education and also part of Home Fire Sprinkler Week.
Media is encouraged to attend and the public is welcome as well.
