Bertrand Storm Sewer Repairs

photo of exposed storm sewer on Bertrand Street

This is what open heart surgery looks like - civil engineering style. The recent heavy rains created pressure that buckled the Bertrand storm sewer, creating voids under 12th Street and damaging the roadway. After excavation around the stormsewer box to determine the area of failure, several walls and the street were found to have significant deterioration and will need complete replacement.  This portion of the Bertrand box was built in 1970 and is nearing is design lifespan of 50 to 75 years.  Repairs for this structure are anticipated to be completed by mid October.  Until then, Bertrand street will remain closed and motorists should find alternate routes.

Timeline: September 16 - mid October

Traffic Impacts: Bertrand Street will be closed from 11th to N. Manhattan.
