The City Commission voted 3-2 to pass the proposed 2022 City of Manhattan budget at the September 21 meeting. The approved levy rate for 2022 is 53.335 mills, which is an increase of 3.499 mills from the previous year. The mill levy increase will fund the City's outside city-service obligations to the Riley County Police Department (+1.797 mills), Manhattan Public Library (+0.182 mills), and city operation support to the General Fund (+0.545 mills), Fire Equipment Reserve Fund (+0.342 mills) and Kansas Fire and Police Fund (+0.744 mills).
For a home worth $200,000, the 3.499 mill levy increase will represent an additional $55 per year. For a business worth $500,000, the increase will represent an additional $212 per year in property taxes.
